Telemedicine in Mississippi

Mississippi has been an early adopter of telemedicine beginning in 2003 with the introduction of real-time, tele-emergency service connecting trauma clinicians at the University of Mississippi Medical Center with rural emergency departments throughout the state. Mississippi continues to be a national leader in the adoption and innovative application of telemedicine.

Sustaining Mississippi’s Trauma Care System

Mississippi has enacted policies that are considered a model for trauma system development by other states. Much of the success of Mississippi’s system is derived from a stable funding structure established in statute. Recent statutory changes threaten to weaken this structure. Childhood Immunizations: Mississippi’s Mandatory School Immunization Law

Mississippi law mandates that all children attending school must be vaccinated against certain diseases.  All states have similar laws but vary in the number and type of exemptions allowed.  Mississippi allows only medical exemptions.

Leading by Example: Mississippi Lawmakers Get Fit

During the 2010 legislative session, members of the Mississippi House and Senate, along with staff from the Legislature and the Governor’s Office, took part in a 12-week fitness program, the Paul Lacoste Sports’ Fit 4 Change.  In this video several of the participants describe their experience and how it influenced their working relationships and their perspectives on health and wellness.
