Mississippi Medicaid pays for pregnancy-related healthcare for over 60% of Mississippi births each year. Many pregnant Medicaid participants would not have been eligible for Medicaid prior to their pregnancy increasing the likelihood that they have gone uninsured for some time. The Center for Mississippi Health Policy commissioned researchers at the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to survey non-elderly Mississippi adults to assess their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to health insurance and the Affordable Care Act.
